I am deeply, deeply honored to be the recipient of the 2018 Northup Educator of the Year Award.
From the Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) Foundation website:
"The George W. Northup Educator of the Year Award was developed in honor of George Northup, D.O. Dr. Northup acted as mentor to many osteopathic medical students throughout his career, often going above and beyond his call of duty to improve students' educational experiences. Each year, local SOMA chapters nominate a professor, dean, or faculty member from their osteopathic medical schools who exemplifies the qualities of Dr. Northup. Nominees in the past have provided countless hours to students during exam preparation, have opened their homes to students, volunteered in the community, and acted as a friend when needed. The SOMA chapter finalists present a three to five minute video of their nominee to the House of Delegates during the spring SOMA convention in Washington, D.C. The House of Delegates votes on the winning George W. Northup Educator of the Year who becomes the honored guest during the following fall's SOMA Foundation award reception."
To even be nominated by the MU-COM SOMA is a huge honor -- but to then consider the tremendous time and effort required of the students to foster my nomination... incredible. Their work is a huge part of the process and, without their dedication, I never would have received this award. Thank you!
